What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you passionate about performing multidisciplinary chemical and materials science? If yes, apply to join our team of scientists, engineers, and technologists. We are seeking a self-driven undergraduate intern eager to engage in innovative research and technological development.

In this position you will learn new capabilities and position yourself for a rewarding career using science and engineering to provide exceptional service in the national interest.

Each day you will work with state-of-the-art scientific equipment within small teams of expert scientists and engineers, and find yourself involved in any of the following:

  • Creating and testing novel materials by electrochemical or chemical processes, including functional metallic coatings, nanomaterials, polymers, battery electrodes, and more
  • Building prototypes, including custom battery cells, electrochromic devices, microfluidic pumps and more using 3D printing, machining, or other forms of manufacturing
  • Learning to use modern materials characterization instrumentation, including SEM/EDS, NMR, AFM, potentiostats, tribometer, ion mill, XRF, TGA, and much more
  • Analyzing large datasets for the purpose of material optimization and/or deeper scientific insight
  • Presenting data and research findings to colleagues in both written and oral formats
  • Learning to operate in a R&D laboratory

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
