Trader Assistant Cotton | Start Your Career in Commodity Trading

Are you analytical, curious and eager to build a career in commodity trading? Join our Cotton Trading team in Rotterdam and gain hands‑on experience at the heart of a global trading business.

As a Trader Assistant Cotton, you will support the traders with daily commercial and analytical activities, helping the team make informed decisions and ensuring key trading processes run smoothly. You will work closely with Trading, Trade Execution and other teams across our international network, gaining unique exposure to the global cotton market.

This is an entry‑level position and an excellent stepping stone for someone looking to grow into a commercial trading role over time. We are looking for someone with the right attitude, hunger to learn, and willingness to take ownership.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting traders with pricing, reporting and market‑related analysis.
  • Monitoring positions and maintaining trading data in internal systems.
  • Preparing and maintaining contracts and related documentation.
  • Developing and improving reports, tools and processes using Excel and basic Python.
  • Working closely with the Trade Execution team to support the smooth execution of contracts.
  • Identifying issues, solving problems and improving ways of working.
  • Coordinating with colleagues across Trading, Execution, Finance and other international offices.
  • Supporting ad‑hoc commercial and operational activities across the desk.
Required skills and experience
  • Have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Data Analytics, IT, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or a related field.
  • Have strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Python, VBA or other programming languages, with the ability to understand and maintain scripts used for process and task automation.
  • Enjoy solving problems and working with data.
  • Be proactive, curious and eager to learn.
  • Have strong communication skills and enjoy working in a team environment.
  • Have a good command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Have relevant experience in trading, commodities, logistics or commercial support (preferred but not required).
