Your role at Baxter
Principal Systems Engineer. Support the development of complex medical devices to meet customer needs and regulatory standards. Work with systems, hardware, and software engineers to solve difficult problems by applying standard system engineering principles—including requirements, risk, issue, and configuration management—to ensure best‑practice design control.
What you'll be doing- Lead development of Design Inputs and Digital Interface Requirements.
- Translate user needs into system requirements in collaboration with marketing and clinical personnel.
- Guide electrical, mechanical, and software engineering teams in decomposing system requirements into derived requirements.
- Resolve competing constraints among cross‑functional functions (engineering, manufacturing, regulatory, marketing) to deliver products to market.
- Document theory of operations for complex medical product designs and resolve interface issues.
- Define test strategies with verification engineers and develop verification and validation plans using requirement tracing.
- Support risk analysis from hazard capture to mitigation, including quantitative residual risk calculation for the Safety Assurance Case.
- Implement configuration management through the complete product life cycle, from design to sustaining phases.
- Interface with Manufacturing, Service, Product Surveillance, Supply Chain, and Customer Training through the design transfer process.
- Ensure compliance with the product development process and Quality System.
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience or Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
- Solid understanding of systems engineering principals and related disciplines (electro/mechanical, digital interface, fluid mechanics, materials science).
- Proven track record of delivering results on technical challenges, including investigative and problem‑solving skills (DFSS/DMAIC/CAPA).
- Prior medical device experience preferred;
Infusion Pumps and Syringe Pumps are a plus. - Strong oral and written communication skills.
Estimated base salary $112,000–$154,000 annually; possible discretionary bonuses.
