Materials Engineer

Our client, a leader in the medical device and healthcare materials industry, is seeking a dedicated Materials Engineer to join their dynamic team. As a Materials Engineer, you will be part of the Materials Science division supporting innovative projects and ensuring the highest standards in material testing, development, and extrusion support. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, meticulous documentation, and a passion for advancing medical and healthcare solutions.

Location:

Round Lake, Illinois

Duration: 12 months with the possibility of extension/conversion

Pay Range:
Depends on experience

Looking only for W2 and candidates who are local to Round Lake, IL

What's the Job?
  • Coordinate and execute technical service requests involving materials testing and characterization.
  • Support polymer extrusion processes for pellets, films, and tubing, including setup, adjustments, and troubleshooting.
  • Analyze data, conduct root-cause investigations, and provide technical recommendations to improve processes.
  • Prepare test protocols, maintain accurate documentation, and generate detailed technical reports.
  • Follow lab safety procedures and operate advanced characterization tools such as DSC, TGA, DMA, SEM, FTIR, GC-MS, HPLC, and tensile testers.
What's Needed?
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field with 2+ years of professional experience, or PhD with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience with a wide range of materials characterization equipment and techniques.
  • Knowledge of polymer science and processing, with extrusion experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills, technical writing ability, and capacity to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Experience in medical device or regulated industries is highly desirable.
