About the RoleUnder limited supervision, our Accountant performs advanced accounting duties that support the City's financial operations. You'll work across multiple funds, partner with departments citywide, and contribute to accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and successful audits.
What You'll DoMaintain and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial records across several fund types, including General Fund, trust and agency funds, capital project funds, and economic development agreements.
Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare related journal entries to ensure financial accuracy.
Produce regular and special reports for City management, Council, and external agencies.
Prepare and maintain key account reconciliations, including property tax, sales tax, miscellaneous receivables, and bank/outstanding check reconciliations.
Support strong internal accounting controls throughout the department.
Audit financial documents for accuracy and compliance with City policies and applicable laws.
Build and maintain productive relationships with internal departments, regional governments, and partner organizations.
Assist with year-end reporting and annual audit activities.
Contribute to special projects led by the Accounting Supervisor or Manager.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field
Additional work experience may substitute for up to two years of education on a year-for-year basis
At least two (2) years of experience in Finance or Accounting
Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting practices, and applicable laws and regulations
Valid Class C Texas Driver's License
