The Round Rock Fire Department is seeking a qualified individual to fill the Logistics Officer position. This person will bring not only the required skills and experience, but also a strong work ethic, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

The Logistics Officer role is responsible for coordinating and supporting the operational needs of the Fire Department through the procurement, management, and distribution of equipment, supplies, and services. This role plays a key part in creating, evaluating, and improving logistical processes to increase efficiency, consistency, and compliance with purchasing policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. The position is well suited for an individual who is comfortable with software management, system build‑out, and who takes initiative in developing, maintaining, and improving tools that support operations.

Responsibilities include inventory control, vendor coordination, facility support, and collaboration with operational personnel to anticipate needs and maintain operational readiness.

This position requires strong organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to identify process gaps, implement improvements, and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, mission‑critical environment.

Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.

Procurement Management
  • Coordinate the purchasing of equipment, apparatus, medical supplies, uniforms, tools, and specialized firefighting resources via Purchase Orders and Pro Card transactions.
  • Reconciles expenses and invoices in a timely manner.
  • Receives all purchases through inventory management system.
  • Manage vendor relationships, bids, and quotes, in accordance with municipal and state procurement policies.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), state and local regulations).
  • Monitor warranty programs and service agreements.
Inventory & Asset Management
  • Oversee inventory control systems for equipment, supplies, and consumables.
  • Maintain accurate asset tracking for department property, including tools, radios, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), and specialty equipment.
  • Implement and maintain systems for issuing, tracking, and auditing equipment.
  • Conduct periodic inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies.
Apparatus & Equipment Support
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules and repairs for apparatus and specialized equipment.
  • Work closely with fleet services and external repair vendors.
  • Ensure operational readiness of emergency response equipment.
Facilities & Infrastructure Support
  • Coordinate logistics related to fire stations, training facilities, and administrative buildings.
  • Support facility maintenance projects and capital improvement initiatives.
  • Manage storage areas and ensure secure, organized inventory environments.
Emergency Response Support
  • Provide logistical coordination during large‑scale incidents, special events, and disasters.
  • Support resource deployment, rehabilitation equipment, and supply chain continuity during extended operations.
  • Participate in emergency management planning and continuity of operations planning.
Policy & Process Development
  • Develop and implement logistical policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Recommend improvements to procurement, inventory, and asset tracking systems.
  • Ensure transparency, accountability, and documentation in all logistical processes.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Serve as a liaison between operations personnel, command staff, finance, IT, fleet, and vendors.
  • Provide training for staff on equipment, issuance procedures, and inventory systems.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, customer service, and operational excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Logistics, Fire Science, or a related field (preferred).
  • Two (2) years’ experience with procurement and logistics required.
