Under general supervision the Equipment Operator assists in the construction and maintenance of the city streets, trails, parking structures, ROW maintenance, concrete structures, storm water features by operating a variety of construction and maintenance equipment.
Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Responsibilities- Assist a field crew in maintenance and construction of streets, trails, parking structures, alleys, and storm drainage systems.
- Perform duties including asphalt and concrete repair, mowing, maintenance of storm drains, catch basins, and storm drain pipes.
- Operate construction equipment to repair and maintain streets and storm drainage systems. Ability to operate vehicles and equipment including gradalls, bulldozers, backhoes, dump trucks, compactors, paving machines, and loaders as well as assorted hand and pneumatic tools for a variety of construction and maintenance operations.
- Maintain records and prepare reports of work performed and materials used.
- Plan, lay out, estimate and arrange for materials and equipment to execute the job successfully.
- Oversee an assigned area and identify asphalt in need of repair or reconstruction.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public, contractors, and others.
- Haul various types of material to and from various locations.
- Set up traffic safety devices and barricades as necessary.
- Perform emergency street, sewer, storm drain, or other public service maintenance work as required. Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment as assigned.
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
- High school graduation or GED equivalent.
- Three (3) or more years of experience as an equipment operator.
- Possession of a Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement or ability to obtain prior to employment.
- Possession of Work Zone Certification, Flagger Certification, Backhoe Certification, and Skid Steer Certification or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
- This position may require you to have or acquire a commercial driver's license (CDL). Federal law requires all CDL holders to register with the USDOT Clearinghouse before operating a commercial vehicle. You will be required to enroll in the clearinghouse and sign a consent form allowing the City to run your name through the clearinghouse as a condition of employment.
