Department Philosophy
Position DescriptionThe Department of Philosophy at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to start Fall 2026. The successful candidate will be an effective undergraduate and graduate teacher, develop a productive research program, contribute to department and college initiatives and leadership (especially the Philosophy Dialogues), and be committed to teaching lower-level philosophy courses as part of a core curriculum.
Members of the department have secured funding through NSF, NEH, AAAS, Rethinking Priorities, and Humanities Texas in recent years.
Typical teaching load is 3/3, with a 2/2 assigned for the first two years. Summer teaching is sometimes available, depending on student demand.
Required Qualifications- Ph.D. in Philosophy by the time of appointment. ABD applicants should provide a letter from the committee chair verifying anticipated completion before 1 August 2027.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Research and teaching specialization:
Ethics and Philosophy of Emerging Technologies. - Teaching competence in Philosophy/Ethics of Digital Technologies and Philosophy/Ethics of AI.
- Evidence of teaching excellence.
- Active research program.
- Evidence of professional or institutional service.
- Teaching experience in Applied Philosophy, Bioethics/Medical Humanities, or Environmental Philosophy.
- Experience teaching large classes (100+ students).
- Experience teaching or mentoring graduate students.
- Experience in interdisciplinary teaching or research.
- Experience coordinating a speaker series, community engagement, or conferences and symposia.
