The Department of Philosophy invites applications for an Associate Professor of Instruction. The successful candidate will be an effective undergraduate and graduate teacher, contribute to department and college initiatives and leadership (especially the Philosophy Dialogues), and be committed to teaching lower‑level philosophy courses as part of a core curriculum. Members of the department have secured funding through NSF, NEH, AAAS, and other sources.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, including doctoral‑level Responsible Conduct of Research/Research Ethics, possibly evening courses or online, and summer teaching when available. Service to the department, college, university, and professional levels is expected, particularly through course design and curricular development. The incumbent will also support cross‑disciplinary initiatives and serve on interdisciplinary programs across campus.
- PhD in Philosophy.
- Professional activity such as presentation at a peer‑reviewed conference or publication in a peer‑reviewed journal.
- Teaching experience.
- Evidence of institutional or professional service.
- Experience with program administration.
- Experience in leadership.
- Experience in program building.
- Research and teaching specializations in Philosophy of Human Flourishing, Ethics and Society, and Bioethics.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with course or curricular design, expertise in general education, teaching experience in Dental Ethics, Healthcare Ethics, or Professional Ethics.
