Overview
The Surgical Technician works alongside surgeons, surgical assistants, nurses and anesthesiologists to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures by handling the necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment.
QualificationsEducation: Certificate or associate’s degree in surgical technology
Experience: Two or more years of related experience
Responsibilities- Basic knowledge of medicine, biology, psychology, occupational and life safety
- Ability to use surgical equipment and instrumentation
- Ability to comprehend speech and effectively communicate with other operating room team members
- Must follow, convey and understand written and oral instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
- Compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs
- Ability to respond quickly when priorities and/or the patient’s condition changes
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
- Ability to function independently without constant supervision
Environmental Conditions: Medical Office environment;
Ambulatory Surgery Center
Physical Conditions: Must be able to sit and/or stand for prolonged period of time; must be able to bend, crouch, stoop, reach, twist and stretch; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment, etc.; must be able to lift, pull, and push with assistance of one other person, the weight of the average patient
Must be able to work as scheduled—typically from 07:30 to 15:30 M-F, and some weekends
