Job Summary and Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the overall operation of the department. Responsible for orienting, evaluating, and documenting competency of personnel. Establishes, maintains, and revises departmental policies and procedure to include departmental programs, quality control, performance improvement, and safety. Maintains departmental expenses and productivity as budgeted. Oversees respiratory care as delivered by the Respiratory Therapy department.
ESSENTIAL
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prioritizes work appropriately and completes assignments in a timely fashion.
- Completes all required documentation with special attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrates competency in proper airway care including, as applicable: airway suctioning, oral and nasal airway care, cuff pressure monitoring, and extubation.
- Demonstrates competency in the performance of routine patient assessment and in the ability to correctly recognize and interpret respiratory dysfunction.
- Performs quality control procedures, as required.
- Employee's conduct must reflect the Company's values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct ethics and compliance program.
- Competency in new procedures is gained in a timely fashion as they are incorporated into the department's practices.
- Other duties as assigned, including periodic assignment as a shift's Lead Therapist.

- Assist Director and Manager with clinical service's daily operations which include, but not limited to, shift staffing, supply ordering, equipment and supply inventory, oversee rental equipment, charge capture, daily reports, employee evaluations, employee rounding, scheduling, HR disciplinary processes, annual employee competencies, blood gas documentation and clinical documentation (chart audits).
Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to patient care. Adheres to and enforces prescribed safety policies and regulations. Works independently with minimal direction. Functions as a liaison between Respiratory Care and the respiratory care customers. Provides care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Operates general equipment, including but not limited to: telephones, computer keyboards, respiratory therapy delivery equipment.
Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA's and St. David's "Patients First" safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
Recognizes that variables such as age, race, nationality, culture, disease-causing vulnerabilities, socioeconomic factors affect the patient populations under their care. Uses interventions appropriate to these factors (e.g., interpreter, dietary preferences, social service consult, etc.)
Ability to read and write in English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical reports. Ability to write accurate and concise clinical documents, memos, and required business correspondence. Ability to collect and analyze data using statistical methods. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the department and with department customers.
What qualifications you will need:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- (NBRC-RRT) Registered Respiratory Therapist
- (RRT/RCP-State) Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner
- Associate Degree
- Neonate Resuscitate, or Neonatal Resuscitation Program must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
