Systems Engineer, Network Engineer
Visa: Independent Visa only(USC/GC)
Position Overview
Dell is embarking on a massive, strategic infrastructure modernization initiative to clear out end-of-life (EOL) network hardware across enterprise data centers, remote sites, and MDF/IDF closets. This legacy equipment is causing system instability and blocking Dell's next-generation AI-driven initiatives.
We are looking for a hybrid Senior Network-Automation Engineer who is a network engineer first and an automation expert second. This is not a pure software developer or Dev Ops role; we require deep foundational networking credibility combined with hands-on automation expertise to drive large-scale refreshes and reduce operational friction.
- Work Split: Approximately 60% Automation / 40% Network Engineering & Design (shifting based on project phases like mass provisioning and hardware refreshes).
- Location / Travel: Round Rock, onsite preferences apply (flexible for exceptional talent).
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and implement Layer 2 and Layer 3 network solutions for campus, data center, edge, and MDF/IDF environments.
- Lead large-scale network hardware refreshes, device migrations, and data center buildouts leveraging automated deployment frameworks.
- Build, maintain, and optimize network automation workflows, provisioning pipelines, and software/hardware upgrades using Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Integrate automation tools with existing infrastructure platforms via REST APIs and CMDB systems to ensure seamless tracking and configuration management.
- Troubleshoot complex issues arising from structural changes, design implementations, and automated deployments (this is an engineering role, not a NOC ticket-churn position).
- Navigate corporate change management governance, process-heavy environments, and organizational red tape with resilience and adaptability.
- Leverage modern development approaches, including Spec-Driven Development (SDD) and AI-assisted workflows (e.g., Claude/Devin-type environments) to accelerate automation efforts.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
- Network Engineering Core (Must-Have):
- 10+ years of total hands-on enterprise infrastructure, security, and data center design experience.
- Deep understanding of enterprise switching, routing protocols, and how access/distribution layers integrate into a broader architecture.
- Certifications:
- CCNP preferred (signals deep routing/switching knowledge).
- CCNA accepted only if backed by extraordinary real-world design and automation proof.
- Network Automation & Scripting (Must-Have):
- Demonstrated track record of automating network tasks, configuration management, software upgrades, and provisioning workflows.
- Proficiency in Python, Ansible, Terraform, or comparable infrastructure automation frameworks.
- API & CMDB Integration (Strong Preference):
- Experience writing scripts to call REST APIs, fetch infrastructure data, and interact with CMDB or similar source-of-truth platforms.
- Modernization Experience (Strong Preference):
- Proven history of delivering large-scale network refresh programs, switch upgrades, or data center stand-ups.
