Traffic Signal Technician – Senior
Under general supervision the Traffic Signal Technician – Senior position installs and maintains traffic signals in a manner that provides for efficient traffic flow throughout the city. Responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electronically controlled traffic control devices; responds to emergency situations regarding signals, flashers; assists in training signal crew members. Work is performed with limited supervision.
Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
Examples of Duties- Serves as a lead technician to traffic signal technicians. Performs traffic signal maintenance and repair by modifying and replacing existing components; schedules testing and upgrades with emphasis on performance; minimizes dust factor in cabinet environment protecting electronic equipment operations; assembles and installs school zone beacon flashers; maintains and repairs roadway lighting; troubleshoots and repairs all related ITS equipment.
- Utilizes Advance Traffic Management System (ATMS) software; assist in Traffic Management Center as needed to monitor traffic flow, vehicle patterns, emergencies and special events; changes vehicular and pedestrian timings to improve traffic movement at signalized intersection; adjusts timing parameters allowable within the scope of the job; report concerns to management for support and direction.
- Assists in the preparation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of corrective actions taken at signalized intersections; participates in all emergencies requiring the expertise and knowledge of the traffic signal staff; utilizes knowledge and equipment in addressing other department needs; monitors the safety of all workers.
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Some college is preferred.
- Two (2) years experience in construction, electrical, traffic signal maintenance, or a closely related field required. Traffic Signal experience preferred.
- Knowledge of traffic signal software and systems preferred.
- Possession of a Class A Commercial Texas Driver's License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- I.M.S.A. Traffic Signal Level III Certification preferred.
- Possession of I.M.S.A. Work Zone Certification or equivalent, or ability to obtain in 6 months, not to exceed 12 months.
- Possession of I.M.S.A. Traffic Signal Technician Level II Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months, not to exceed 12 months.
