- This is a non-supervisory position. Under general supervision, the Wastewater Plant Operator will operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot the wastewater treatment facility and its processes. The primary function of this position is to maintain and operate the city s wastewater production, treatment, and storage in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. Work involves responsibility for the technical aspects of plant operations, compliance with state and federal operating regulations, and underground sewer system.
Work is performed with considerable independence under the direction of the Public Works Director, subject to review through reports and results achieved. Employee will be On-Call once a month for a week and be responsible for Weekend checks for both water/wastewater system. - Check chemical levels at regular intervals.
- Run routine laboratory tests to determine proper chemical treatment.
- Collect wastewater samples.
- Check operation of equipment in plant and make repairs or reports of defects.
- Maintains plant records.
- Cleans and maintains facilities and grounds.
- May assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, or annual reports to State and Federal agencies.
- Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of City water/wastewater utilities to include water/wastewater pipes, water and wastewater pumps.
- Answers emergency calls from the public and other agencies taking appropriate action such as repairs to water/wastewater system.
- Completes reports on daily work assignments and activities as required.
- Organizes tools, equipment and supplies necessary to complete assignments.
- Inspects, cleans and maintains equipment and tools in safe operating order.
- Performs routine inspections of assigned areas to detect any necessary repairs or hazardous conditions.
- Maintains safety regulations including wearing appropriate clothing, erecting proper barricades and signage and using proper equipment and tools.
- Position requires the ability to work off-duty hours and perform on-call duties.
- Travels to attend meetings and training.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates high ethical standards, trustworthiness, and personal integrity.
- Regular and punctual attendance is required.
- Ability to operate motorized vehicles and equipment including dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, pumps, compressors, generators, common.
- Ability to use the appropriate specialized hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, radio, and phone, and equipment specific to area of assignment including ladders, testing equipment.
- Perform maintenance and repairs to the wastewater collection system, to include but not limited to collection lines, manholes/covers, lift-stations, and force mains.
- Perform maintenance and repairs to the wastewater system, to include but not limited to valves, lines, and may include pumping sites.
- Utilize proper tools and equipment to perform mechanical and physical repairs to the wastewater collection system and the distribution system.
- Perform chemical dosing to the wastewater collection system for grease dispersion and root control.
- Respond to calls/requests that occur during normal work hours and after hours.
- Complete and submit paperwork related to work orders.
- Communicate with citizens while out in the field or responding to calls/requests.
