Job Title

This position performs professional civil engineering work involving the planning, design, review, inspection, and administration of municipal capital improvement projects and private development projects.

Essential Job Functions

Responsibilities include engineering design, construction oversight, plan review, cost estimating, technical analysis, CAD preparation, and support of engineering standards. The position also provides technical guidance to junior staff and serves as a technical resource for consultants, contractors, developers, and the public.

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from an Accredited Engineering College or University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field. Proficiency in basic engineering principles and practices, construction practices and techniques, and the various phases of plan review and inspection processes. Proficiency in the use of various computer software programs, preparation of cost estimates, and oral and written technical and general communication.

Proficiency in performing complex engineering computations, including calculus, geometry, and trigonometry, accurately and efficiently. Proficiency in reading and interpreting specifications, plans, and shop drawings. Proficiency in interpreting information and making decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Proficiency in providing direction to peers, as assigned, and communicating effectively with the general public. Must have proficiency in the use of engineering software and automated engineering tools, including AutoCAD and GIS.

Requirements

Maintain current knowledge of applicable City, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, standards, and policies to ensure project compliance. Respond to inquiries from citizens, developers, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders regarding engineering projects and related matters. Research, analyze, and evaluate engineering data to investigate concerns and recommend practical solutions. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to established safety practices and procedures. Perform administrative duties, including attending meetings, preparing reports and correspondence, maintaining project records, and entering data into computer systems.

Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
