Job SummaryThe Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, under general supervision, assists Physicians during catheterization and electrophysiology lab procedures. Responsibilities include preparing the room and equipment, instructing patients, monitoring patient condition, providing routine and emergency patient care, contributing to orientation and training of team members, and supporting quality control initiatives through auditing and reporting.
Essential Functions of the Role- Assist physicians with arteriograms, catheterizations, permanent pacemaker and implantable cardiac defibrillator implantations, diagnostic and interventional procedures, peripheral and coronary interventions, and thrombolytic therapy.
- Follow national and state radiation protection regulations for patients, self, and staff. Provide emergency procedures such as CPR and defibrillation as needed.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑procedure care and monitoring.
- Orient patients for catheterization or electrophysiology procedures and answer related questions to ensure patient comfort.
- Monitor patient’s ECG, pressures, temperature, and impedances while in the electrophysiology lab; notify physician of any variances.
- Assist with running RF/Cryo ablation systems, 3D mapping, and recording other procedural documentation.
- Manage and maintain images, including stenosis testing, formatting, and processing for cardiac and peripheral cases.
- Collect registry and quality data in procedure rooms and prepare procedure reports.
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields for lab procedures.
- Order and maintain inventory of procedure room supplies; ensure rooms are adequately stocked and equipment is up‑to‑date.
- Coordinate and audit resources during yearly inventories.
- Perform routine calibration and maintenance of complex equipment; notify appropriate team members when fixes are required.
- Assist in orienting and training new staff and students or perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
- Oversee quality control monitoring, such as NPSG auditing, turnaround times, and performance improvement initiatives on a daily, monthly, and/or quarterly basis.
- Participate in governance, departmental, hospital, or professional organization committees, including LEAN initiatives and 5S projects.
- Transport patients to and from procedural areas and demonstrate good customer service skills.
- Education and/or experience requirement:
Associates degree in a related field, completion of a US military training program equivalent to an associate degree, or 2 years of related cardiovascular lab experience. - Availability for on‑call response per facility/department policy.
- Knowledge and ability to apply complex invasive cardiac and vascular instrumentation and techniques.
- Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.

Qualifications- Registry:
Must hold an RCIS, ARRT (Radiologic Technologist)/TMB Radiography, or imaging credential. - Education:
Technical or Associate’s degree in Radiology; new program graduates welcome. - Experience:
1 year in the catheters lab or 2 years in a cath lab (experience in lieu of education). - Schedule:
Full‑time day shift Monday‑Friday, 4 days per week, 7 am‑5:30 pm, with rotational call every 4 weeks. - Cross‑training:
Willingness to cross‑train as EP tech or RN that scrubs cardiac cases.
- ACLS:
Must obtain ACLS within 30 days of hire/transfer. - BLS:
Must obtain BLS within 30 days of hire/transfer. - Augmented certification options: ARRT‑R, Cert Cardiac Device Spec (CCDS), Cert EP Specialist (CEPS), MRT, Reg Cardio Electrophysiology (RCES), Reg Cardiovascular Invasive Spec (RCIS). Must meet at least one of the following: ARRT‑R and MRT through Texas Medical Board, RCIS, RCES, CEPS, or CCDS.
