Overview
Methodist Health System is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse for the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) in a PRN Nights role. As part of a leading Healthcare & Medical Services organization dedicated to improving and saving lives across Texas, you will play a vital role in delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered care to critically ill post‑surgical patients.
ResponsibilitiesIn this position, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients recovering from complex surgical procedures who require intensive monitoring and advanced interventions. Working in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity ICU environment, you will perform thorough patient assessments, continuously monitor vital signs and hemodynamic status, manage ventilators and complex IV drips, interpret cardiac rhythms, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
You will administer medications safely, implement evidence‑based care plans, and collaborate closely with surgeons, intensivists, anesthesiologists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
As a night‑shift PRN nurse, you will help ensure continuous, safe coverage of the unit during overnight hours, including weekends and holidays as needed. You will participate in rapid responses and emergency interventions, support post‑operative pain management and sedation monitoring, and provide meticulous wound and surgical site care. You will be responsible for accurate, timely electronic documentation, adherence to infection prevention standards, and strict compliance with hospital and regulatory policies.
Aligned with Methodist Health System’s culture of integrity, compassion, and accountability, you will demonstrate empathy and professionalism in every interaction. You will educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations, and ongoing care needs, offering emotional support during critical and often stressful situations. You will actively contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work environment, engage in shared decision‑making when possible, and support quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and best practices within the Surgical ICU.
QualificationsThe ideal candidate brings solid critical care experience—preferably in a surgical ICU or similar high‑acuity setting—strong clinical judgment, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex patients. A current RN license in Texas (or compact state), BLS, and ACLS are required; CCRN or other critical care certifications are strongly preferred or expected to be obtained within a defined timeframe.
BenefitsMethodist Health System offers competitive compensation, eligibility for comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, retirement/401(k) options, and access to professional development resources. This PRN Nights role is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated critical care nurse to contribute meaningfully to patient outcomes while working within a mission‑driven, supportive health system.
