Salary and Hiring Range
- Salary Range: $39,256.21–$58,885.64
- Hiring Range: $39,256.21 – $44,163.57
Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work. Operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of City water, wastewater, and drainage systems. Performs related duties as required.
Responsibilities- Repair leaks in the wastewater collection system or water distribution system, including pipes over 6 feet deep, while ensuring trench safety.
- Replace service tubing, sewer lines, lateral lines, cleanouts, main lines, and tapping saddles.
- Check water and wastewater stations, keep grounds neat and clean, and assist with work on pumps, motors, controls, and electrical wiring.
- Maintain SCADA system, wet wells, dry wells, elevated towers, and ground storage tanks; perform preventive maintenance on all station equipment.
- Remove debris, open and close valves, flush lines, and replace damaged parts using chemicals such as floating degreaser, chlorine, caustic soda, and all‑purpose cleaners.
- Repair manholes, clean‑outs, and valves using pick, shovel, jackhammer, or tapping machine; dig trenches or holes; assist heavy equipment operators.
- Perform water and sewer taps and related duties; support other departments during emergencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned and maintain reliable, non‑disruptive attendance, and professional relationships.
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- No experience required, but some construction, maintenance and repair of water and wastewater experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license required; maintain a good driving record. Obtain Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire.
- Must reside within a 1‑hour response time from the Public Works Building; relocation permitted within six (6) months.
- Must have a minimum of a Class "D" Water License and Wastewater Collection System Class I License or obtain within 24 months of hiring. A Class "C" Water Distribution License and Wastewater Collection System Class II License preferred.
- Ability to stand, walk on uneven terrain, and lift tools up to 150 pounds; reach, bend, twist, kneel, crouch, climb, and balance as required.
- Follow written and oral instructions, complete work orders, and fill out daily reports and checklists for stations.
- Read and interpret labels on equipment, chemicals, reports, and memos.
- Use math to calculate water usage at stations and hourly readings.
- Interact and get along with crew members and the general public, and follow safety procedures.
May be required to operate foot controls on heavy equipment such as backhoe. Exposed to extremes in outdoor temperature, inclement weather, fumes, and trenching during water operations.
