Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi‑skilled and skilled maintenance work; operates equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, wastewater, streets, and drainage systems. The role includes concrete work, installation of forms, steel tie‑ing, back filling, laying sod, using finishing tools, and operating concrete construction vehicles. Work is on Capital Improvement Projects funded with bond proceeds.

• Assist Crew Leader in planning, scheduling, and implementing construction, maintenance, and operation activities for water, wastewater, street, and drainage services.
• Perform labor on projects as part of a crew, including pavement repair, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and back filling, and reading grades.
• Maintain equipment and tools, conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance, and report defects or needed repairs.
• Ensure safe operating conditions at work sites, following MUTCD and safety standards, including traffic hazards, equipment operation, barricades, confined space, and trench safety.
• Respond to complaints regarding asphalt, concrete, and drainage repairs; evaluate situations, communicate findings to supervisors, and coordinate with residents and business owners about service interruptions and restorations.
• Assist in training Maintenance Specialist I’s and II’s and in obtaining locates for utility lines before excavation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Maintain regular, reliable, non‑disruptive attendance and foster harmonious working relationships.

High School graduation or GED with at least three (3) years of proven experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of streets and drainage, including at least one (1) year of equipment operation. Supervisory experience preferred.

• Stand, walk, and shoot survey grades; clean trucks; flag traffic.
• Operate equipment controls, use shovel, carry materials, and write daily reports.
• Lift and carry materials up to 150 lbs.; push and pull 20 lbs. of exertion; reach, bend, sit, twist, climb, and balance while operating equipment and removing debris.
• Work outdoors in extreme temperatures, inclement weather, high noise levels, and vibration exposure from jack hammers and tampers.
• May be required to be on call and work nights, evenings, and weekends.
• Must reside within a 1‑hour response time from the Public Works Building and be able to relocate within six (6) months of employment if needed.

Valid driver’s license required. A Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement is preferred or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of employment. CDL required for all construction vehicle operations.
