Part‑time (5.75 hours per day, 28.75 hours weekly, 180 days per year) under Lane 4(B) of the Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule.
This position is funded through grant allocations or enrollment‑based funding and employment is guaranteed only through the current school year; continuation beyond that is contingent on future funding.
Job SummaryUnder the direction of the principal and teacher(s), the Elementary Aide assists teachers in a variety of capacities during instruction and supervision of students. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are essential functions of this role. The aide also supports behavior intervention, classroom supports, and instructional activities.
Responsibilities- Assist teachers with instructional activities, classroom management, and student supervision.
- Use safe and appropriate procedures for managing students with challenging behavior.
- Interpret and implement written behavior plans and positive behavior supports.
- Adapt classroom work to support lesson plans under the teacher’s direction.
- Provide instruction in one‑on‑one, small‑group, or whole‑group settings.
- Support inclusion in general education classrooms.
- Monitor student behavior and make quick decisions for safety.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Maintain accurate data on assigned students or groups.
- Collect behavior data and provide reports or graphs to school personnel.
- Implement interventions outlined in IEPs, BIPs, or other success plans.
- Offer feedback on specific student needs and share best practices with staff.
- Assist in on‑the‑job training for para educators when appropriate.
- Respond to critical situations as needed.
- Demonstrate flexibility, problem‑solving, and professional confidentiality.
- Carry out any other duties assigned by the administrator.
- Assist in preparing instructional materials.
- Tutor students individually or in small groups on the teacher’s direction.
- Support students with disabilities in physical and emotional maintenance and curriculum participation.
- Provide supplemental help across school subjects and programs.
- Administer tests and monitor academic progress.
- Maintain accurate data on student progress.
- Create a positive learning environment and self‑concept for students.
- Maintain classroom behavior management to keep a focused learning environment.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
- Participate in school events and professional development as directed.
- Stand for 50% of the time and move to access files, students, and equipment.
- Operate computers and office equipment continuously.
- Occasionally climb ladders or stairs.
- Carry items up to 50 pounds and work in outdoor weather conditions when needed.
- Maintain the ability to communicate information clearly.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
- Experience with behavior intervention or special education preferred.
- Strong communication, patience, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
Position paid according to Lane 4(B) of the Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule.
