this position assists a certificated teacher and/or related service staff in instructional and non‑instructional activities for students who have significant behavioral disabilities. The role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring interventions for students, creating classroom supports, and modeling positive behavior techniques for staff.

• use safe and appropriate procedures when managing students with challenging behavior.
• interpret and implement written behavior plans.
• implement and model positive behavior supports with students.
• observe, collect data, and analyze classroom conditions to assist with behavior plan strategies.
• collect data on student behaviors and recommend instructional modifications to foster responsible thinking and decision‑making.
• collaborate with school team members to provide instruction and support effectively, maintaining a disruption‑free environment.
• develop and maintain effective working relationships with multiple school teams.
• assist in maintaining students’ files and records documenting activities and providing reliable information.
• monitor individual students in classrooms, school, and community settings to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
• communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• adapt to changing work priorities, displaying tact, courtesy, meeting deadlines, setting priorities, attending to detail, and managing detailed information.
• relate to special‑needs students in a positive and confident manner.
• support students with instruction in special‑education, general‑education, and one‑on‑one settings.
• provide accommodations such as reading tests aloud, scribe services, alternate assessment locations, and check‑in/check‑out support.
• support classroom teacher in collecting behavior data.
• monitor student behavior and make quick, effective decisions.
• remain calm in crisis situations.
• drive students in district vehicles to transport them to and from school and other locations.
• work independently with minimal supervision.
• exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality.
• comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures.
• perform duties assigned by the building administrator or special education staff for the benefit of students.
• attend consistently, as attendance is an essential function of this position.

• assist other personnel as required to support completion of their work activities.

• lift up to 50 pounds.
• assume and maintain a variety of postures, including kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student‑size chairs, for extended periods.
• move repeatedly from sitting on the floor to standing.
• manage physical or verbally aggressive students safely.
• participate in physical fitness activities such as walking, stretching, and aerobic exercise.
• remain calm and follow safety procedures in emergency situations.
• use quick body movements to maintain safety and implement behavior plans.
• drive district vehicles for transportation of students as necessary.
• participate in and utilize mandt training.
• handle bio‑hazards such as blood‑borne pathogens, human waste, and cleaning/disinfecting materials.
• participate in required school and district training, e.g., van certification.

• job‑related experience preferred.
• willingness to train and acquire mandt certification.
