Elementary Aide

Under the direction of the principal and teacher(s), the Elementary Aide assists teachers in a variety of capacities in the instruction and supervision of students. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position. As school needs change, your job description and essential functions could change from year to year to include Playground, Lunchroom, Classroom, STEM, Art, etc.

Essential Functions:

Assists in the preparation of instructional materials.

Assists in the instruction of students and other classroom activities as needed.

May tutor students individually or in small groups under the direction of the teacher.

Assists with physical and emotional maintenance of students with disabilities including assessing curriculum and participating in school or classroom activities.

Assist students needing supplemental help with various school subjects and programs.

Assist in the administration of a variety of tests and monitor students' academic progress.

Keeps accurate data on assigned students or groups of students.

Supports a school environment that helps students develop and maintain a positive self-concept.

Support classroom behavior management to maintain a positive and focused learning environment.

Maintains professional confidentiality regarding student information.

Maintains effective and positive communication with students, teachers, parents, patrons and administration.

Positive interaction with students, teachers, social workers, psychologists, support personnel and administrators.

Assists in school events at the direction of the principal

Requires ability to work effectively with staff and students

Requires ability to exercise emotional control in difficult situations.

Requires ability to solve a variety of problems relating to individual student needs and behaviors. Problem solving is guided by policies and procedures set by administration and the licensed teachers.

Requires knowledge of and assistance for the safety and security of students assigned to the classroom (e.g., helping students on and off buses on a rotating schedule, supervising play activities, field trips and lunches).

Effectively implements interventions and strategies as outlined in Individualised Education Plans (IEP), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), or other student success plans.

Collects behavior data and provides reports and/or graphs of the data to school personnel for use in developing behavior intervention plans.

Provides feedback about specific student needs.

May assist in on-the-job training to other para educators as appropriate.

Responds to critical situations in a variety of locations on a temporary, as needed basis.

Demonstrates flexibility, the ability to work independently and problem solve.

During times of emergency, all employees may be required to perform additional duties that are not required on a normal basis in support of educational and operational priorities.

Supervision of a student in a location outside the classroom as needed.

Participate in professional development as directed by your administrator.

Must be able to work assigned hours.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administrator.

Recess & Lunchroom Supervision Duties:

Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable recess experience for elementary school students. This role involves supervising outdoor activities, promoting positive social interactions, and contributing to a secure and inclusive play environment.

Supervise students during outdoor recess periods to ensure a safe and secure environment.
Monitor student behavior, intervening when necessary to address conflicts or ensure adherence to rules.
Promote positive social interactions and encourage inclusive play.
Enforce safety rules and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
Be vigilant for potential hazards on the playground and take prompt action to address them.
Mediate minor conflicts among students, promoting peaceful resolution.
Report significant behavioral issues or incidents to school administrators or teachers.
Foster a positive and respectful atmosphere during recess.
Encourage and facilitate inclusive play activities that engage students of varying interests and abilities.
Organize and oversee structured games or activities to enhance the recess experience.
Report any unusual behavior or patterns to school staff.
Collaborate with school staff during emergency drills or real-time situations.

Math Intervention Duties:

Responsible for assisting in the delivery of effective math instruction to elementary school students. This position involves working closely with classroom teachers and instructional coach to provide targeted math interventions, monitor student progress, and create a supportive environment that fosters mathematical development.
