Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as mechanical designer for mechanical systems (mechanisms) design on a major Northrop Grumman Defense Systems program.
  • Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical/aerospace products for aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, missiles, ground vehicles and associated ground and test equipment.
  • Develop CAD models and 3D model based drawings using Siemens NX and Team Center.
  • Verify specifications and designs through modeling and simulation, test data processing, and performance analysis.
  • Support all phases of the systems lifecycle including design, drawings, fabrication, test, installation, operation and maintenance.
  • Design components/systems and conduct preliminary/sizing analysis for stress and dynamic analysis of aerospace structures.
  • Prepare and present reports, briefings, design documents (drawings and specifications) and interface with customers.
  • Attend internal program meetings, customer technical exchanges, and supplier briefings; present design status during formal milestone reviews.
  • Assist IPT lead in managing team schedule and mentor junior engineers in mechanical design.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5 years of experience; or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience (Principal Mechanical Engineer).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 8 years of experience or 6 years’ experience with a Master’s degree (Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer).
  • Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval.
  • 5+ years of experience with CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, including mechanical systems (mechanisms preferred).
  • Familiar with common engineering standards (ISO, ASME, Mil Spec, NAS, etc.).
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills when conveying technical content.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, materials selection and manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead design teams and drive technical decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Team Center (CPLM) and the Product Definition Package (PDP) release process.
  • Experience with the ASME Y14.X suite of engineering drawing standards.
  • Experience with requirements management and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles.
  • Experience with ICBMs or launch equipment systems.
  • Experience performing dynamic and static analysis (NX Motion or ANSYS preferred).
  • Proficiency in DOORS, CAMEO, Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience managing or leading an interdisciplinary engineering team from concept creation through test and verification.
  • Experience as a Control Account Management (CAM).
