Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Aeronautical/Principal Aeronautical Engineer in Roy, Utah to support the Sentinel program.
What You Will Do- Support the Aero/Fluids functional homeroom manager in guiding the execution and ensuring quality of the Aero/Fluids teamwork products across Sentinel and Advanced Programs.
- Communicate effectively and clearly; present technical approaches and findings to customers, executive management, and other program stakeholders.
- Conduct high‑fidelity CFD simulations to predict missile aerodynamic performance under various flight regimes.
- Perform all aspects of the CFD process: clean up geometry, mesh the model, set up boundary conditions, monitor solution convergence, and post‑process results.
- Ensure the quality of Aero/Fluids team products meets technical excellence standards.
- Collaborate closely with other disciplines/IPTs (Flight Analysis, Structures, Propulsion, Integration & Test, etc.).

Standard work schedule: 9/80 (nine‑hour days Monday‑Thursday, alternate Fridays off).
Basic QualificationsCFD Aeronautical Engineer (T02)- 2 years of experience with a Bachelor’s in Science; 1 year with Master’s; 0 with PhD; or 4 years of experience in lieu of degree.
- US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval.
- Deep knowledge of fluid dynamics principles, aerodynamic theory, and numerical methods for subsonic, supersonic, hypersonic, and rarefied flows.
- Experience with commercial CFD codes (CFD++, StarCCM+, ANSYS Fluent), including meshing, running cases, and post‑processing in Tecplot.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across IPTs.
- Experience using CAD software to clean up geometry for CFD.
- 5 years of experience with a Bachelor’s in Science; 3 years with Master’s; 1 year with PhD.
- US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain SAP approval.
- Deep knowledge of fluid dynamics principles and numerical methods for subsonic, supersonic, hypersonic, and rarefied flows.
- Experience with commercial CFD codes (CFD++, StarCCM+, ANSYS Fluent) including meshing, running cases, and post‑processing in Tecplot.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across IPTs.

- Active In Scope DoD Secret Security Clearance.
- Master’s Degree in Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Understanding of ablation, boundary layer transition, acoustics, plasma, and other reacting flow phenomena.
- 1 year of experience developing aerodynamic models, tools, databases using MATLAB, Python, C++ or similar for integration into 3/6
DOF simulations. - 1 year of experience with analytical aerodynamic design tools (e.g., Missile DATCOM).
- Experience analyzing wind tunnel test data and flight test results for verification and validation.
- Proficiency with Linux and Windows HPC environments for aero/fluids work.
- Involvement in planning and execution of physical aerodynamics testing (wind tunnels, flight test validation).
- Analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Prior exposure to defense projects or regulated environments.
- DoD Top Secret Clearance.
Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $. Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $. Salary offerings are based on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, and market conditions. Eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, long‑term incentives, and other compensation as applicable.
