Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team of qualified individuals. This position will be located at Roy, UT to support the Sentinel (GBSD) program in the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force's sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.
This position may be filled at a higher level based on qualifications below.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Work within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, customers, and other technical disciplines to engineer design solutions to challenging problems through the development of Interface Control Models (ICM). ICMs consists of 3D models (NX) for space allocation and interface detail for all Command and Launch (C&L) facilities and equipment.
- Create and implement 3D CAD (NX) models that define space allocation and interface detail
- Support the ICM team in capturing interface detail through design and board reviews
- Implement program processes and engineering board approval processes for developed ICMs
- Deliver required ICMs on time to meet program objectives
- Integrate Interface Design ICMs with the various element teams to proactively eliminate disconnects and design clashes
- Identify gaps and holes within the design and/or requirements and provide a path forward for resolution that is cost effective, innovative, and has minimal impact to others while filling the gap/hole
- Ensure the developed ICMs meet the design requirements from the various element/configured item specifications
- Determine technical solution in accordance with product specifications and recommend actions to representatives for coordinated product solution
- Support digital transformation initiatives relating to ICM development and release
Basic Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of related experience; or a master's degree with 3 years of related experience (Sr. Principal level requires 8 years with a bachelor's; or 6 years with a master's)
- Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
