Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking Sr Principal Field Engineers. This position is in Roy, UTAH and supports the Sentinel program.

Lead planning, installation, checkout, and handover of weapons systems and Test & Training site. Provide technical leadership during deployments, develop and deliver technician training, manage vehicles and specialized handling equipment, and ensure systems meet operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan deployment activities of weapons systems for Test & Training sites, including logistics, schedules, resource allocation, and risk mitigation.
  • Lead onsite installation, alignment, integration, and checkout of weapons systems, mounts, emplacements, interfaces, and associated equipment.
  • Act as Technical Lead for site; coordinate pre briefs, hazard analyses, readiness reviews, and debriefs with stakeholders.
  • Create, maintain, and enforce SOPs, installation work instructions, checklists, and configuration-control processes for deployment activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver training curricula, courses, and certification paths for technicians and operators covering installation, safe operation, maintenance, and checkout.
  • Manage vehicle fleets and specialized handling equipment (cranes, forklifts, trailers, heavy tractors, winches, transport fixtures): establish maintenance schedules, inspection criteria, licensing/training requirements, and records.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, field repairs, and modifications for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control systems; verify fixes through sign-off.
  • Coordinate with engineering, safety, range control, program management, and customer representatives to ensure site compliance with technical, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain configuration documentation: installation redlines, as builts, calibration records, maintenance histories, service logs, and test reports.
  • Manage hazardous materials (hazmat) handling and storage requirements on deployed sites; ensure proper manifests and disposal procedures.
  • Provide onsite mentorship and technical oversight to less experienced field staff and contractors; escalate unresolved technical issues to engineering teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8 Years with Bachelors in Science; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD; 4 years of additional relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Field engineering or deployment experience with progressively increasing responsibility; prior work on weapons systems, rocket/propulsion test assets, or heavy-defense systems strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience leading installation, checkout, and commissioning of complex systems at field sites.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering technical training and certification programs for technicians.
  • Hands on proficiency with mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, hydraulic systems, control systems, and diagnostics.
  • Experience managing vehicle fleets and heavy lift/transport equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with configuration control, calibration processes, SOP generation, and technical documentation best practices.
  • Thorough understanding of safety, hazardous materials handling, and site access/control procedures.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with Sentinel or similar defense/aerospace deployment programs and/or test range operations.
  • Qualifications/certifications such as forklift, crane/rigging, aerial lift, fall protection, CDL, or similar.
  • Certifications:

    OSHA, forklift/crane operator certification, hazardous materials handling (HAZWOPER or equivalent).
  • Experience with range safety, explosives/propulsion safety standards, or defense contracting environments.
