Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team of qualified individuals. This position will be located at Roy, UT to support the Sentinel (GBSD) program in the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force's sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

The role will be responsible for the design, development, production, and deployment of launch-equipment hardware and systems for each weapons system facility. Working in a dynamic, people-focused environment, the engineer will collaborate closely with users, customers, and fellow engineers to deliver high performance mechanical solutions for the Sentinel program. This position may be filled at a higher level based on qualifications below.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a mechanical designer for mechanical systems (mechanisms) design on a major Northrop Grumman Defense Systems program
  • Researching, planning, designing, and developing mechanical/aerospace products for aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, missiles, ground vehicles and associated ground and test equipment
  • Developing CAD models and 3D model based drawings using Siemens NX and Team Center
  • Verifying specifications and designs through modeling and simulation, test data processing, and performance analysis
  • Supporting all phases of the systems lifecycle including design, drawings, fabrication, test, installation, operation and maintenance
  • Designing components/systems, and performing preliminary/sizing analysis for both stress and dynamic analysis of aerospace structures
  • Preparing and presenting reports, briefings, design documents (drawings and specifications) and interfacing with customers
  • Attending internal program meetings, customer technical exchanges, and supplier briefings; presenting design status during formal milestone reviews
  • Assisting IPT lead in managing team schedule and mentoring junior engineers in mechanical design

This position may be filled at a Principal Mechanical Engineer level or at a Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer level.

  • Principal Mechanical Engineer:
    Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree with 3 years of experience
  • Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer:
    Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) with 8 years of relevant experience; 6 years' experience with a Master's degree
