Principal/Sr. Principal Structural Engineer
Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Structural Engineer. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
What You Will Get To Do:
- Responsible for overseeing and coordinating civil/structural systems design for the Sentinel infrastructure and facilities.
- Subject matter expert supporting the design of high complexity civil/structural systems, including structural steel design drawings, concrete forming and reinforcing design drawings.
- Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.
- Participate in project design/model reviews.
- Review subcontractors design product quality/accuracy by reviewing civil/structural designs and validating that current standards are applied and integrated into the design solution.
- Support the delivery of Civil/Structural facility design Technical Data Packages, Issue-for-Construction (IFC) packages, as-built TDPs, PDPs, interface models, and additional design artifacts.
- Supporting structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues.
- Developing and presenting design change requests, coordinating with impacted internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring configuration control of the technical baseline.
- Identifying risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors and executing handling/mitigation/capture actions to reduce risk or realize opportunities.
- Developing and maturing Civil/Structural facility designs that meet Weapon System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and other applicable codes and regulations.

Basic Qualifications:
- Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
- U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).
- Knowledge and/or experience with structural analysis of structures, utility connduit and connections.
- Professional knowledge of structures, statics, strength of materials, structural dynamics principles, and methods.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with adjacent disciplines (e.g. systems engineering, aerodynamics, stress analysis, design, test) in a highly integrated team environment.
- Experience with review of structural calculations, Basis of Design, construction drawings and specifications, logic plans, preferably with aerospace structures.
Principal Structural Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in Science or STEM with 5 years of experience; or Master's degree with 3 years of experience; or PhD with 0 years of experience.
Sr. Principal Structural Engineer:
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 8 years of experience, 6 years of experience with Master's degree, 4 years of experience with PhD.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Structural Engineer Professional Engineering Registration or Structural Engineer Professional Engineering Registration/SE.
- Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly and succinctly communicate complex concepts and technical concepts to internal and external stakeholders.
- Exposure to structural test applications.
- Experience with seismic analysis (ASCE 7-16).
- Experience with Uniform Facility Criteria, Uniform Facilities Guide Specifications.
- Experience applying AISC and ACI 318.
- Experience developing and maturing Civil/Structural facility designs that meet Weapon. System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and other applicable codes and regulations.
- Proficiency with Revit, Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Modeling (ANSYS, GTStrudl, ABAQUS, STAAD).
