Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking Sr. Staff Embedded Software Engineers for the Flight / Guidance Navigation & Control (GN&C) Software Team. This position will be located in Roy, Utah, and will support the Sentinel Program.

What You’ll Get To Do

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership within the Flight Systems Guidance, Navigation, and Controls (GNC) Software team, focusing on the development of mission critical software products. They will architect complex systems and lead the design, development, testing, and deployment phases, ensuring compatibility through the development and integration of board support packages and driver implementations. Expertise in real‑time operating systems is essential, including configuring kernel parameters, managing task scheduling, and implementing inter‑process communication.

They will also develop and facilitate middleware integration, utilizing appropriate communication models. Responsibilities include integrating application, system, and device layers on real‑time embedded systems, performing performance measurements, and optimizing throughput to enhance system performance, and mentoring software engineers. The candidate will participate and advise in the formal testing approach for embedded software products, closed‑loop simulation integration, and defect troubleshooting and resolution.

Required Qualifications
  • 14 Years with Bachelor’s in relevant field of study, 12 Years with Masters, 10 Years with PhD or 4 additional years in lieu of a degree.
  • +10 Years of SW Experience (Experience in C++, real‑time embedded software, and object‑oriented design. Experience with full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debugging, and maintenance.)
  • +5 years of Systems Engineering & Test Experience with System architecture, design, requirements decomposition, hardware‑in‑the-loop, and simulation testing.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and team management skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including expertise in executive‑level communication.
  • Experience with engineering metrics, schedule planning, and technical scope execution, utilizing Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
  • Demonstrated performance in aligning and technical driving execution.
  • Proven track record of coaching and guiding team members to foster skill development and career growth.
  • Must be a US Citizen, with an active DoD Secret clearance and be eligible for a SAP.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in algorithmic application development and optimization.
  • Experience in real‑time embedded software development, including real‑time multi‑threaded architecture design, w/ knowledge of guidance and control systems.
  • Experience with Integrity Operating Systems and/or VxWorks.
  • Experience with Visual Studio.
  • Experience with MATLAB.
  • Experience with Coverity, Sonar Cube, Code Sonar, Fortify.
  • Experience with the Atlassian tool set, Kubernetes, Model Based Engineering, Git Lab, and Dev Sec Ops  best practices.
  • Excellent integration troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in building low‑level code to interact with devices and hardware.
  • Experience in compilation and link techniques for achieving memory usage and partitioning design objectives.
  • Familiarity with assembly and low‑level code optimization.
  • Familiarity with Board Support Package development and test.
  • In depth knowledge of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems.
  • Proven experience solving challenging architectural problems in embedded systems.
