Occupational Summary

The Program Director provides leadership and management of all aspects of an academic program, offering discipline‑specific expertise, supervising staff and faculty, addressing student needs, and maintaining the required teaching load. For the Nursing program, the Director manages daily operations within the Health Division, leading nursing education matters.

• Teaching
  • Teach the required faculty load as listed in the Faculty Load Policy.
  • Adhere to the Baker College Learning Model.
  • Maintain attendance records, submit grades on time, and provide constructive student feedback.
  • Utilize the College’s Learning Management System in accordance with usage expectations.
  • Complete all Direct Measure Assessments.
• Assessment
  • Lead continuous improvement discussions using student learning assessment results.
  • Author the annual assessment report.
  • Track and communicate external benchmarks for student learning outcomes (certification rates, pass rates, exam scores, etc.).
• Curriculum Development
  • Assist the Dean in overseeing curriculum and ensuring rigor and quality of instruction.
  • Develop course curriculum as assigned by the Dean.
  • Manage approved instructional materials for assigned courses.
  • Implement the curriculum review and improvement process for assigned courses.
• Campus Leadership
  • Complete course staffing for assigned campuses.
  • Provide course schedule recommendations for assigned campuses.
  • Hire program faculty as requested by campus leadership.
  • Lead and coach program faculty at assigned campuses, hosting regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Lead program student body at assigned campuses, hosting regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Recommend annual program budget for assigned campuses.
  • Participate in campus events, extracurricular opportunities, and professional and community organizations as assigned by the Dean.
• Service to Program
  • Comply with accreditation mandates, supervise site visits, and notify of any substantive changes within the program or accreditation status.
  • Author required annual reports and self‑study documents and submit to the Dean and campus leadership for approval.
  • Plan and facilitate advisory boards and manage resulting data for program improvement.
• Professional Expertise and Proficiencies
  • Pursue professional development.
  • Stay current in academic fields (e.g., belonging to professional societies, participating in pedagogical professional development, attending conferences).
• Program Director of Nursing Addendum
  • Provide supervision and administrative leadership for the entire nursing program and staff.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all nursing faculty and students.
  • Develop and maintain clinical site affiliations.
  • Assess student academic achievement, clinical practice outcomes, and instructional program review.
  • Maintain the rules and regulations outlined by the Michigan Board of Nursing for Nursing Education and work toward program approval by accrediting bodies.
  • Direct student selection and admission into the professional track of the nursing program.
  • Maintain required professional qualifications, licensing, and continuing education hours.
  • Participate in scholarly activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

• Master of Science Degree in Nursing (required). Doctorate of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Current, unencumbered Michigan Registered Nurse license.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Teaching experience preferred; experience at college level and at least three years in related field is preferred.

• Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, virtual meeting platforms (Google Meet/Zoom), and other program‑specific technologies.
• Knowledge and proficiency in computer skills to support technology use.
• Experience with Learning Management Systems.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
• Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or community members.
• Ability to write speeches and articles for publication in prescribed style and format.
