Position: Nurse Midwife/Nurse Practitioner/PA (B), OB/Gyn - Troy

Job Summary

This is a regional Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) II position working variable 12‑hour shifts at Troy Hospital and William Beaumont University Hospital. Shifts are primarily in the OB Emergency Department at both hospitals, and in Labor & Delivery (WBUH only), with a focus on midnights, weekends, and other times as needed. The CNM provides full‑scope midwifery care during the ante‑partum, intrapartum and postpartum periods, and also cares for gynecologic patients in clinic and office settings.

High‑risk patients are managed in consultation with the medical team.

Essential Functions
  • Provide clinical services and management of mothers and babies as defined in standing orders, policies, procedures and protocols. Perform physical exams, collect and document data, manage labor and spontaneous delivery, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations, and prescribe appropriate interventions and medications. Formulate and implement prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and inter‑conceptional care as defined by midwifery scope of practice.
  • Communicate and consult with patients, families, healthcare team, physicians, administrators and others, modeling advanced practice nursing through professional conduct, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision‑making, critical thinking and problem‑solving.
  • Perform limited obstetrical ultrasound, including fetal imaging tests such as biophysical profile, amniotic fluid volume assessment, placental location determination, cardiac activity confirmation, fetal lie or presentation evaluation and fetal weight estimation.
  • Serve on unit and hospital‑wide committees related to women and infant services; utilize research and evidence‑based decision‑making in all clinical practice; incorporate clinical research findings into care standards; support HIC‑approved clinical research and trials.
  • Plan and deliver educational programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary team and community; precept nurse‑midwifery students and provide education and support to residents and medical students; provide patient and family education related to perinatal care.

Qualifications
  • Required:

    Master’s Degree from an accredited Nurse Midwifery Program.
  • Required:

    6 months of relevant obstetric nursing experience; preferred: 1 year of midwifery experience.
  • Required:

    Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Michigan upon hire.
  • Required:

    Certified Nurse‑Midwife (CNM) certification from AMCB.
  • Required:

    Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 180 days.
  • Required:

    Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C‑EFM) certification within 180 days.
  • Preferred: OB sonography certification (ARDMS) upon hire.
  • Preferred:
    Additional certification from the preferred list.
  • Preferred:
    Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
