Overview

Improve health, instill humanity and inspire hope. The CNM hired for this position will work variable shifts at Troy Hospital and William Beaumont University Hospital. Shifts are primarily 12 hours and will be assigned in the OB Emergency Department at both hospitals and Labor & Delivery (WBUH only). Shifts will primarily be midnights, other shifts as needed, and will include weekends.

The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) II is an advanced practice nurse who provides full scope midwifery care, including antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care, as well as gynecologic care in the clinic/office setting. High-risk patients are cared for in consultation and collaboration with the medical team. The practice setting includes the Outpatient Clinic, contractually with Obstetrician offices, the Natural Birth Center, the Family Birth Center Triage and LDRs, and the Post Partum unit with a focus on clinical care, patient satisfaction and safety.

Clinical care may include first assisting in OB surgical cases.

Essential Functions
  • Clinical Practice:
    Provide clinical services and management of mothers and babies as defined in standing orders, policies, procedures and protocols for the CNM. Perform physical exams, collect and document data, manage labor and delivery, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations, and prescribe appropriate interventions and medications. Formulate and implement prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and inter-conceptional care within midwifery scope of practice.

    Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians and others; promote patient and family centered care; provide continuous, compassionate, culturally sensitive care.
  • Limited obstetrical ultrasound: perform fetal imaging testing as indicated, including evaluation of fetal well-being, placental location, confirmation of cardiac activity, fetal lie/presentation, and estimation of fetal weight.
  • Leadership/Quality/Research:
    Serve on unit and hospital-wide committees related to woman and infant services. Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice; develop and implement standards of care; support approved clinical research/trials.
  • Education/Professional Development:
    Assess educational needs, plan and evaluate educational programs for nursing staff and interdisciplinary teams; precept nurse midwifery students and provide education to Residents and Medical Students; provide patient and family education related to prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and interconceptional care; participate in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Quality control testing of amnioswab and urine dip testing on FBC unit.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Nurse Midwifery from an accredited program (ACNM or CoCNM).
  • 6 months of relevant obstetric nursing experience required.
  • 1 year of midwifery experience preferred.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in Michigan (upon hire).
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) certification from AMCB (upon hire).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (within 180 days).
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification (C-EFM) (within 180 days).
  • OB/Gyn certification (ARDMS preferred upon hire).
  • One certification from the preferred list, plus BLS (AHA/ARC) preferred.
