RN Med Surg Transplant

Overview

Unit 4 Center is a 34‑bed surgical unit specializing in patients with acute and chronic kidney and liver disease. We care for kidney and liver transplant recipients and patients undergoing nephrectomy for donation. Transplant patients are admitted prior to surgery and receive postoperative care after ICU downgrade. Patient education is a core component of our care, and we work closely with the Transplant Medical Team.

We are #1 in the nation for one‑year kidney transplant survival. Our nurses perform peritoneal dialysis; we do not perform hemodialysis. Patient‑to‑nurse ratio is 4/5:1.

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, utilizes the nursing process to provide professional nursing care. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and discharging patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader. The RN incorporates patient–family centered care principles, develops teaching strategies, documents education, and partners with families in goal setting.

• Associate’s or Diploma in Nursing required.
• Bachelor’s in Nursing required within 5 years for G‑N or RN with less than 1 year of experience.
• Graduates from a non‑accredited nursing school must have at least one year of acute care experience or two years in a licensed healthcare role.
• Successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
• MI Registered Nurse (RN) status required within 60 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire from accredited organizations.

Employment Type:

Part time. Shift: Day (7:00a.m.–7:30p.m.). Variable weekend frequency:
Every third weekend. Scheduled hours: 24 hours per week.
