Position
:
Broadband Technician II. You will perform intermediate to complex installations, disconnects and service changes for residential customers, including FTTH (Fiber to the Home RFoG and GPON). Services include, but are not limited to, video service, HSD Services, and home phone service. This role performs moderate troubleshooting from the tap to the customer's electronic devices (TV, DVD, Modem, etc.). You will be involved in underground and/or aerial construction, system plant repair and maintenance, and supporting various customer-focused activities.
You will be responsible for installing, splicing, repairing and maintaining aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and coax cable. You should be knowledgeable of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within telecommunications.

Due to in-field support and on-call requirements, the individual selected for this position will reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the Ruidoso, NM warehouse located at 5117 Vision Dr, Ruidoso, NM 88345.

This position can be hired at Broadband Technician I,
Broadband Technician II
, or Broadband Technician III level depending on skills and qualifications. Different postings exist for each level. Please reference each job posting for minimum qualifications and submit applications for each level you are interested and qualified for.
- Performs intermediate and complex installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap/MST to the customer's equipment for reception of cable and other company services for single, multi-family customers and/or commercial dwellings over Fiber Optic and Coax delivery methods. May coordinate underground burial work with contractor and in-house crews, and handle permits from government agencies as required to perform work in the ROW.
Ensures work meets construction and government standards; conducts pre-inspections to verify serviceability and identifies efficient routes to provide service. - Performs connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, relocates, installs additional outlets, fiber connections, and hardline cutovers; installs or removes equipment (e.g., converters) at single or multiple unit dwellings.
- Utilizes test equipment to identify and repair signal strength issues and ensure optimum reception both optical and RF. Uses Locators, TDRs, FDRs and OTDRs; reads system maps and interprets blueprints; updates blueprints as needed. May involve pole, ladder, tower or bucket truck work.
- Performs work to conform to quality control guidelines and compliance with regulations (OSHA, FCC, NEC, NESC).
- Monitors and records system, drop, and in-house leakage; properly records all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.
- Promotes cable, internet, and other company services; educates customers on service usage, available add-ons, channel lineups, equipment usage, and other services.
Required Qualifications
- 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience, or current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
- 6+ months of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation and repair, or switch training.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
Other Qualifications
- Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
- Requires being available for on-call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel. Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
- Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
