The Opportunity

Our client is looking for an experienced Workshop Technician to join their Fleet & Plant team based at Preston Brook Depot in Runcorn.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading infrastructure business responsible for maintaining a diverse fleet of vehicles, trailers and specialist plant equipment that supports essential services across the UK.

As a Workshop Technician, you'll play a key role in ensuring fleet assets remain safe, compliant and fully operational through high-quality inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair work. Working within a modern workshop environment and occasionally via Mobile Service Vehicles (MSVs), you'll help keep critical operations running efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of safety and workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

As a Workshop Technician, your responsibilities will include:

* Carrying out inspections, servicing, maintenance and repairs on a wide range of vehicles, trailers and plant equipment.

* Diagnosing electrical, mechanical and hydraulic faults using modern diagnostic equipment.

* Completing repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and DVSA maintenance standards.

* Ensuring all repairs are completed to at least MOT standard.

* Testing vehicle systems and carrying out road tests to verify repairs and ensure safe operation.

* Delivering cost-effective maintenance solutions whilst maintaining exceptional quality standards.

* Completing electronic job cards, service records and maintenance documentation using tablets and PDA devices.

* Providing roadside breakdown assistance and support when required.

* Maintaining workshop tools, equipment and Mobile Service Vehicles in a safe and serviceable condition.

* Ensuring the workshop is maintained to a clean, organised and safe standard.

* Working in full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, Operator Licence requirements and company procedures.

* Collaborating with colleagues and sharing technical knowledge to support the wider Fleet & Plant team.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential Qualifications & Experience

* City & Guilds or NVQ qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent).

* Full UK Driving Licence.

* HGV Licence.

* Previous experience maintaining and repairing commercial vehicles, HGVs and/or plant equipment.

* Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.

* Ability to work independently whilst following established procedures and safety standards.
