Senior Purchasing Manager – Farm Operations

We are seeking an experienced Senior Purchasing Manager – Farm Operations to lead strategic sourcing and procurement across large-scale agricultural operations. This role drives cost efficiency, supply reliability, and long-term value by aligning purchasing decisions with agronomic strategy, operational timing, and capital planning—not just short-term pricing.
You will oversee procurement of crop inputs, fuel, consumables, and capital equipment, working closely with the Executive Agronomist, Operations Manager, and Executive Leadership.
Key Responsibilities Crop Input Procurement (Primary Focus)- Source fertilizer, crop protection chemicals, and inputs aligned with cropping and nutrient strategies
- Develop forward-buy and in-season purchasing plans to manage price volatility and supply risk
- Monitor market trends, pricing, availability, and storage considerations
- Manage bulk purchasing of fuel, oil, lubricants, and tires
- Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and service levels
- Balance opportunistic buying with storage and seasonal demand
- Coordinate purchases of tractors, implements, vehicles, and fleet assets
- Evaluate new, used, and rebuilt equipment based on lifecycle cost, uptime, and utilization
- Support cost-per-hour and ROI analysis for major capital decisions
- Lead negotiations on pricing, rebates, financing, warranties, and service agreements
- Maintain competitive sourcing while building strong long-term supplier relationships
- Ensure vendor performance on quality, delivery, and service
- Ensure timely availability of critical inputs while minimizing carrying costs
- Coordinate deliveries with agronomy plans and operational schedules
- Proactively prevent shortages and operational downtime
- Report on pricing trends, supply risks, and procurement performance
- Maintain accurate contracts, pricing agreements, and purchasing records
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and post-season reviews
- Proven experience in agriculture procurement, supply chain, or heavy-equipment purchasing
- Strong negotiation experience with high-dollar, high-volume purchases
- Solid understanding of farm inputs, equipment life cycles, and seasonal operations
- Financial acumen to evaluate total cost and long-term trade-offs
- High integrity, organization, and follow-through
- Experience purchasing fertilizer, crop protection products, or fuel at scale
- Knowledge of commodity price volatility and forward-buy strategies
- Experience supporting multi-location or multi-entity farm operations
- Senior-level impact on farm economics and capital efficiency
- Direct collaboration with agronomy, operations, and executive leadership
