Athletic Director / Assistant Principal

Reports To:

Building Principal and Superintendent or designee

Supervises:
Athletic coaches, activity advisors, staff, and students as assigned

FLSA Status:
Exempt, approximately 11-month working period, administrative salary schedule, 1-sick day/month, 4-personal days annually. Job Goal

The Athletic Director / Assistant Principal provides leadership for student activities and athletics while supporting the overall administration of the school. The position oversees athletic and activity programs, student supervision and discipline, staff support, community relations, budgeting, compliance, and school improvement efforts.

Qualifications
  • Valid Idaho Administrator Certificate endorsed for Principal preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required; additional coursework in administration, athletics, or educational leadership preferred.
  • Successful experience in teaching, coaching, and/or school administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs, supervise personnel, manage budgets, and work effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional and Administrative Leadership:

  • Participate in the supervision, observation, and evaluation of teachers, coaches, advisors, and classified staff as assigned.
  • Support instructional improvement, curriculum implementation, assessment practices, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Scheduling school events, activities, and programs.
  • Serve as acting principal in the principal's absence when designated.
  • Support special education processes and student support teams as assigned.

Athletics and Activities Administration

  • Prepare and manage annual athletic and activities budgets.
  • Oversee purchasing procedures and approve athletic equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain inventory records and ensure proper stewardship of school property.
  • Coordinate transportation and scheduling for athletic contests and student activities.
  • Supervise ticket sales, fundraising, booster club activities, and financial accountability procedures.
  • Ensure coaches, officials, and activity personnel are properly assigned and compensated.
  • Submit required reports to district administration, governing organizations, and state associations.
  • Monitor student eligibility and compliance with district and association requirements.
  • Maintain required participation documentation, medical clearances, and parent permissions.
  • Coordinate CPR, AED, coaching certifications, and required safety training.

Student Services and Discipline

  • Supervise students before, during, and after school, including activities and athletic events.
  • Make disciplinary decisions and provide guidance regarding student behavior.
  • Conduct conferences with students and parents regarding student conduct and performance.
  • Develop recommendations related to student conduct and discipline.
  • Promote high expectations, student achievement, safety, and well-being.

Staff and Community Relations

  • Provide leadership, support, and timely communication to staff, coaches, and advisors.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, staff, media, and community organizations.
  • Assist in building partnerships with parent organizations, civic groups, and community stakeholders.
  • Promote positive school-community relations and communicate program successes.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct.
  • Remain current on federal, state, district, and association rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Participate in professional development, conferences, workshops, and administrative meetings.
  • Model ethical leadership and contribute to district and school goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
