Position Summary:

Instructor of Music/Staff Accompanist. This is a full-time (9-month) position in the Department of Music within the College of Arts & Humanities. Instructor rank faculty are not eligible to earn tenure, but do have opportunities for promotions. The anticipated start date for this position is August 3rd, 2026. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide broad collaborative piano services for music department students and faculty, to include:

Accompany students on recital hour performances.

Accompany instrumental and vocal capstone recitals.

Accompany vocal juries.

Accompany choirs in rehearsal and performance settings.

Collaborate with music faculty to prepare and perform recitals.

Recruit and retain students for the music department.

Engage students in high-impact learning practices.

Effectively coach and mentor students at the undergraduate level.

Provide impactful departmental, college, university, and professional service to the university, community, and state.

Additional duties and responsibilities assigned by the Department Head based on departmental needs and candidate strengths.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Exhibit musicianship on the piano in collaborative settings.

Accompany and mentor undergraduate music students.

Ability and interest in coaching and preparing students for solo performances.

Ability and interest in recruiting and retaining talented undergraduate musicians.

Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to fluently use education, office, and music software, as well as learning management platforms (i.e. Blackboard, Banner).

Minimum Requirements:

The applicant must have a master's degree in music.

Demonstrated success in collaborative piano performance, including accompanying instrumental and vocal soloists as well as vocal and instrumental ensembles.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to communicate and nurture student growth.

Excellent sight-reading ability.

Demonstrated ability to quickly prepare for several performances in a short period of time.

Experience coaching instrumental and vocal students preparing for solo performances.

Experience collaborating with vocal and instrumental ensembles.

Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:

The candidate selected for this position will work on the Russellville campus of Arkansas Tech University, in Witherspoon Hall.

ATU will provide the employee with a computer, phone, and office.

Required activities include: performing, sitting for extended periods, using a keyboard and mouse, and using standard office equipment.

Some local travel may be necessary.

The work schedule will include nights and weekends.
