Position Summary:
Arkansas Tech University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering starting in August 2026. The Mechanical Engineering program serves 235 students and offers two Associate degrees (AS in Manufacturing and AS in Nuclear Technology) along with the BS in Mechanical Engineering. The BS in Mechanical Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (http://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).
Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and student interactions through undergraduate and sponsored research, advising and student organizations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach, assess, and develop undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering with an emphasis in manufacturing, mechatronics, or robotics.
Effectively advise and mentor students at the undergraduate level and engage students in high impact learning practices.
Participate in scholarly activities including undergraduate research with publishing in appropriate journals or conferences.
Develop a sustainable scholarship program including seeking external funds to support the program. And provide impactful departmental, college, university, and professional service to the university, community, and state.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to teach courses related to manufacturing, mechatronics, or robotics.
Ability to teach fundamental mechanical engineering courses.
Demonstrated skills in both oral and written communication.
Minimum Requirements:
Earned Ph.D. (or, if ABD, the degree must be awarded by December 31, 2026) in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Mechatronics/Robotics Engineering or other closely related field from an institution that offers EAC of ABET accredited programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Specialization/emphasis in one of the following areas: manufacturing, mechatronics, or robotics.
Teaching experience at the university level.
Industrial experience.
P.E. registration.
Potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Evidence of the potential for creating an environment to support student success and access.
Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:
This is an on-campus position in the Department of Engineering and Computing Sciences at ATU's Russellville, Arkansas campus.
