We’re partnered with a community-services based organization in search of a Chief Fiscal Officer (CFO) who’ll serve as a strategic financial leader with operational oversight and provide organizational support as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team responsible for guiding the organization's financial strategy, performance, and compliance.
As the CFO, you’ll oversee the Finance and Payroll departments and ensure the integrity of all financial operations. Key responsibilities include serving in a lead capacity on budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash flow management, grant and contract compliance, audits, internal controls, risk management, and long-range financial planning. You’ll work collaboratively with executive leadership, program leaders, funding partners, auditors, and the Board of Directors to provide data-driven insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
The CFO ensures compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, federal and state regulations, grant requirements, and all applicable financial policies and procedures. This position is responsible for all accounting, payroll, purchasing, and property management, and directing fiscal functions in compliance with all accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate for non-profit reporting.
The CFO’s role is to safeguard organizational assets, maintain strong financial systems and controls, and promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and stewardship. Through proactive financial leadership, the CFO helps position the organization for continued effectiveness, sustainability, and mission impact.
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct, and evaluate the agency’s fiscal status and performance
- Assist in staff succession and growth plans
- Training Finance and related staff in financial management practices
- Contribute to the development and implementation of an Administrative Fiscal Procedures Manual for accounting, payroll, purchasing, property control, procurement, fee schedule, etc
- Collaborate closely with C‑Suite leadership in developing / implementing strategic vision, foster and cultivate stakeholder relationships at local, state, and national levels. Assist in developing / negotiating contracts.
- Assist in identifying new funding opportunities, drafting prospective agency-wide and programmatic budgets, and determining the cost‑effectiveness of prospective service delivery
- Oversee the use and training of MIP Fund Accounting software
- Assess the benefits of all prospective contracts and advise C‑Suite leadership on programmatic design and implementation matters
- Maintain all records relating to the financial transactions of the agency
- Advise and inform C‑Suite leadership of current financial condition to include expenditures and balances by the project, funding source, and other designated categories
- Plan and coordinate work to be accomplished, prepare schedules, and ensure financial responsibilities are effectively and efficiently implemented.
- Provide total administration of the financial departments via advice, counsel, and instructions to staff and communicate administrative development in the agency.
- Interview candidates for positions in the financial department and offer input regarding hiring, promotion and/or reassignments
- Responsible for the accomplishment of all objectives of the financial department, contract projects, or other objectives outlined by the C‑Suite leadership.
- Ensure adequate controls installed and sustaining documentation approved and available to include purchasing may pass independent, state, and federal governmental audits, as well as internal and funding source monitoring.
