RN Surgical Oncology​/Urology​/ENT

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (WCC5) provides specialized nursing care for post-operative patients recovering from gastrointestinal, genitourinary, head and neck surgeries, including those with oncological conditions. This role requires flexibility, teamwork, and a positive attitude to manage a varied patient population in a dynamic environment. The nurse will perform patient assessments, administer medications, monitor telemetry, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care.

• Provide skilled nursing care to post-operative patients with gastrointestinal, genitourinary, head and neck surgeries.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry data to manage patient cardiac status.
• Perform patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and other healthcare providers.
• Respond to patient needs and emergencies promptly and effectively.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.
• Participate in unit charge nurse responsibilities as required.
• Support unit operations including weekends, holidays, on-call, and callback duties.

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State (NY License ONLY).
• Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years telemetry nursing experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and patient monitoring skills.

• Experience with oncological post-operative care.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and EPIC system within the specialty area.
• Charge nurse or leadership experience.

• Must be willing to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Weekend, holiday, on-call, and callback availability required based on unit needs.
• Work environment includes a 28-bed progressive care unit specializing in surgical oncology, urology, ENT, and colorectal care.
• Flexibility and teamwork in a fast-paced, changing clinical environment are essential.

• Rotating shift schedule including day, evening, and night shifts.
• Shifts assigned based on unit staffing needs and may include weekends and holidays.
• On-call and callback duties as required by unit operations.
