The Pipe Welder is responsible for welding carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy, and other piping systems in accordance with applicable codes, project specifications, and company quality standards. This position performs high-quality welds in industrial environments while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, productivity, and craftsmanship. The Pipe Welder works closely with Pipe Fitters, Foremen, and Quality Control personnel to ensure piping systems are installed safely and correctly.
- Perform GTAW (TIG), SMAW (Stick), FCAW, and/or GMAW welding processes as required.
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome, and specialty alloy piping.
- Interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, spool drawings, and fabrication prints.
- Complete pipe welds in accordance with ASME Section IX, B31.1, B31.3, AWS, and customer specifications.
- Perform root, hot pass, fill, and cap welds on various pipe sizes and wall thicknesses.
- Prepare materials by grinding, beveling, cleaning, and fitting prior to welding.
- Verify proper joint preparation and alignment before welding.
- Maintain weld quality capable of passing visual, X-ray (RT), ultrasonic (UT), or other required inspections.
- Repair weld defects when required.
- Work with Pipe Fitters to ensure proper fit-up and installation.
- Operate grinders, beveling machines, torches, plasma cutters, and other fabrication tools.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work permit, and other site-specific safety procedures.
- Participate in Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist with shutdowns, outages, and emergency repairs as required.
- Minimum 3–5 years of industrial pipe welding experience.
- Demonstrated ability to pass company weld tests.
- Experience with industrial piping systems.
- Ability to read blueprints and isometric drawings.
- Ability to perform precision welds in multiple positions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Successful Pipe Welders are expected to:

- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, and work from elevated platforms.
- Perform overhead, vertical, and confined-space welding.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Wear required PPE including welding hood, respirator (when required), gloves, safety glasses, FR clothing, hard hat, and steel-toe boots.
