Our client seeks an experienced and knowledgeable Senior Agronomist to provide expert advice on crop production and soil management for their operations in the Rustenburg region. This role is pivotal in driving innovation and efficiency across various agricultural projects, ensuring optimal plant health and yield. You will work closely with farm managers and researchers, applying scientific principles to solve complex agronomic challenges.
The hybrid nature of this role allows for strategic field visits combined with remote analysis and reporting, offering a balanced approach to agricultural consulting and operational support within a forward-thinking organization.
- Conduct soil testing and analysis to determine nutrient deficiencies and recommend appropriate fertilization strategies.
- Develop and implement crop management plans, including seeding, irrigation, pest, and disease control measures.
- Advise on the selection of appropriate crop varieties and seed treatments for specific soil and climatic conditions.
- Monitor crop performance in the field and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Stay abreast of the latest research, technologies, and best practices in agronomy and sustainable agriculture.
- Train and mentor junior agronomists and farm staff on effective crop management techniques.
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, or a related agricultural discipline.
- At least 7 years of progressive experience in agronomy and crop consulting.
- Deep understanding of plant physiology, soil chemistry, and integrated pest management.
- Proficiency in using farm management software and data analysis tools.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
