TMDrill Rig Operator

Operate a mobile mechanized drill rig underground according to the drill plan adhering to standard operating procedures and required mining and safety standards.

• Grade 12 /STD 10 or NQF 4 is essential.
• Drill Rig Competency Certificate is essential.
• 1-3 years' experience as TM3 Drill rig Operator is essential

• Competent within Confined Spaces
• Hand-eye co-ordination (Dover)
• RFAC and HTS (Rehabilitation Fitness Assessment certificate)
• HTS (Heat Tolerance Screening)

• Ensure safe, efficient and proper use of all machinery, equipment and infrastructure to ensure health and safety requirements.
• Conducts basic maintenance on equipment to ensure its proper functioning.
• Inspects the drill rig and the face and hanging wall at the start of a shift for safety deviations according to a standard inspection check list.
• Obtains daily and weekly work instructions from the Miner and prepares and plans work priority lists and resource requirements in order to complete tasks.
• Ensures accurate understanding of the drill plan and sequence and ensures that all equipment and consumable requirements are communicated to Shift/Team Supervisor in order to complete allocated work tasks.
• Operates the Drill Rig to drill blast holes in the correct places according to drill plan to ensure effective penetration and utilization of equipment and to achieve set targets and standards.
• Ensures that drilling is done in supported and ventilated ends and that drill holes are of the correct depth according to specified standards.
• Continuously ensures that required drilling consumables are in place and that water and diesel requirements are met as per safe standard operating procedures.
• Operates other pieces of mobile equipment for which the Operator has an operating license if required such as diesel trucks, hazardous chemicals trucks, water trucks, lifting equipment such as high up, dozers, 777s, tire dozers and graders.
• Performs regular inspections in area of work and reports hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
