Aboutthe Role
The Technical Accountant supports our fractional CFO team by providing advanced GAAP expertise, reviewing client financials, optimizing QBO workflows, and ensuring our clients receive accurate, audit‑ready reporting. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical research, system design, and translating complex accounting guidance into practical steps for small and mid‑sized businesses.
What You’ll Do Technical Accounting & Advisory- Research and apply U.S. GAAP to client‑specific scenarios (ASC 606, ASC 842, equity, impairments, etc.).
- Prepare technical memos and documentation for audits, lender requests, and due diligence.
- Advise fractional CFOs and clients on the accounting impact of contracts, pricing models, financing, and operational decisions.
- Convert technical guidance into clear, actionable workflows within QBO.
- Review monthly close packages prepared by bookkeeping teams.
- Validate reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
- Support fractional CFOs with management reporting, KPI dashboards, and variance analysis.
- Ensure client financials are accurate, GAAP‑compliant, and audit‑ready.
- Serve as a QBO subject‑matter expert for system configuration, chart of accounts design, and automation.
- Lead cleanup projects, restructures, and process improvements.
- Implement and optimize QBO integrations (, Expensify, Gusto, Dext, etc.).
- Develop standardized templates, SOPs, and internal controls for QBO environments.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders.
- Prepare documentation for complex accounting areas and support client compliance needs.
- Provide coaching and review notes to bookkeepers and staff accountants.
- Contribute to firm‑wide best practices, templates, and technical resources.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting research.
- 3–7 years of experience in public accounting, technical accounting, or outsourced accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in Quick Books Online and cloud accounting tools.
- Ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non‑accountants and small business owners.
- Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
- Experience supporting fractional CFOs or working in a multi‑client advisory firm.
- Familiarity with QBO app ecosystem and workflow automation.
- Experience with budgeting, cash flow modeling, and financial analysis.
- Work with a collaborative, high‑performing team that values accuracy, efficiency, and client impact.
