About this JobThis position is responsible for assisting professional engineer and/or higher level technicians in the performance of construction inspection work. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance. The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.
Job Duties:
The job duties for this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Inspect construction work to ensure compliance with departmental policies, standards, specifications, and project plans.
- Complete and process construction documentation such as field diaries, reports, and estimates.
- Enter, review, and maintain construction project data in departmental systems (e.g., MATT, Site Manager, Content Manager).
- Apply DOTD engineering policies and procedures while working in the Project Engineer’s office and at construction sites.
- Serve as the primary construction inspector in assigned areas of specialization or certification.
- Determine material sampling requirements and verify materials, haul quantities, and survey elevations and alignments.
- Complete required training and support efficient project operations, including assisting other staff as needed.
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 7:45 am - 4:15 pm, Monday-Friday.
Career Progression: This job may be filled as a Construction Inspector 1, 2, 3, or 4.
Compensation: Below is the starting biweekly rate for each level. Additionally, this position is eligible for premium pay of $2.00/hour for every hour worked:
- Construction Inspector 1 - Starting salary is $1198.40/bi-weekly
- Construction Inspector 2 - Starting salary is $1372.00/bi-weekly
- Construction Inspector 3 - Starting salary is $1570.40/bi-weekly
- Construction Inspector 4 - Starting salary is $1797.60/bi-weekly
