The Pre‑K Instructor serves as the lead teacher for a classroom of three‑year‑old children at the Early Childhood Education Center. The role ensures a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment while supporting children’s growth, school readiness, and the ECEC’s position as a university‑based teaching site through mentoring students and maintaining compliance with state licensing and NAEYC accreditation standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play‑based curriculum supporting cognitive, social‑emotional, language, and physical development.
- Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes exploration, curiosity, and positive behavior.
- Conduct ongoing observation and assessment of children’s development and use data to inform instruction and communicate progress.
- Foster supportive relationships with children; communicate regularly with families and partner with them to support each child’s individual needs and developmental goals.
- Mentor student workers, practicum students, and interns; model best practices in early childhood education.
- Collaborate with ECEC staff, HDFS faculty, and interdisciplinary partners to support teaching, research, and outreach activities; participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Ensure classroom practices meet Louisiana state licensing regulations and maintain compliance with health, safety, and supervision standards.
- Support ongoing accreditation efforts, including adherence to NAEYC standards.
- Manage daily classroom routines, schedules, and transitions effectively.
- Maintain classroom materials, supplies, and learning environments to contribute to the overall mission of the ECEC.
The position requires a bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Science, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field.
