Industrial Maintenance Mechanic – Ruston, LA
Base hourly rate: $27.20. Pay may vary based on experience (Mechanic 1: $27.20; Mechanic 2: $30.72).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company policies.
- Wears all required personal protective equipment (protective shoes, glasses, ear plugs, bump cap or hard hat, gloves, dust mask or respirator).
- Knows, understands, and performs all plant and departmental safety regulations and procedures, reporting hazardous conditions immediately.
- Performs safety observations and completes training assignments.
- Understands company policies, regulations, and procedures regarding employee conduct and attendance.
- Displays excellent attendance, attitude, and motivation to advance to the next level.
- Complete duties with direct guidance as needed.
- Assists other maintenance personnel as required.
- Troubleshoots by using testing equipment and other measuring techniques.
- Manages downtime by coordinating with production personnel on routine preventative and predictive maintenance.
- Disassembles devices to access and remove defective parts using hand and power tools.
- Adjusts functional parts of equipment and control systems.
- Fabricates repair parts using shop equipment (welding, cutting, machine tools).
- Maintains and tests Boiler, CO₂ House, Air Compressors, and plant critical systems.
- Layouts, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related equipment for process systems.
- Replaces Indurator O‑Rings and mold car bearings.
- Replaces and/or adjusts oven door cables.
- Repairs and/or replaces limit switches.
- Operates in conformance with ISO certifications held by the Ruston facility.
- Applies preventative and predictive maintenance practices.
- Executes MRO work orders, including entry into SAP.
- Communicates mechanical issues effectively when troubleshooting for internal customers.
- Responds to call‑ins and works the call‑in request.
- Must have own tools.
- Performs other duties as directed.
- Associate degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school (preferred) or one‑year certificate; or one to three years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to solve problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
The Mechanic job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Preferred Certificates, Licenses, Registrations- Mechanic license or equivalent work experience.
- Welding certificate or equivalent work experience.
- Lathe certificate or equivalent work experience.
- Forklift, Diesel Mechanic certificates or equivalent work experience.
- Machinist certificate or equivalent work experience.
Stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl frequently; lift, push, or pull 25 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally with assistance; perform repetitive motions; use hands to handle; reach with hands and arms; communicate with coworkers. Visual acuity, including distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, is required.
Work EnvironmentIndustrial manufacturing environment with heavy machinery, industrial ovens, and mobile equipment; not climate controlled; may be hot, humid, cold, or dusty; high noise levels, vibration, fumes, and potential airborne particles present; requires wearing personal protective equipment.
