Bus Operator The role of the professional school bus driver in today's educational environment is unique, vital, and complex. This position has certain responsibilities to many segments of society. Included is the Federal Government, the State Government, the State Department of Education, the Lincoln Parish School Board, the Superintendent, the Transportation Department, school Principal's, students and parents. Specific responsibilities of the professional school bus driver are listed in the job description.

Included is the Federal Government, the State Government, the State Department of Education, the Lincoln Parish School Board, the Superintendent, the Transportation Department, school Principal's, students and parents. Specific responsibilities of the professional school bus driver are listed in the job description.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Safely transport assigned students to the proper school, and home again.
  • Report regularly and punctually within the time framework established by the Transportation Department.
  • Notify the Transportation Office immediately of impending absence, tardiness, or mechanical failure.
  • Establish proper techniques and follow discipline procedures as established by the State Department of Education and the Lincoln Parish School Board.
  • Complete accurately and timely all reports and records as directed, and as may be required after an accident, for absences, or for any special purposes.
  • Maintain good public relations with students, parents and school administrators. The driver is directed to avoid parent conferences or confrontations while on the route. An alternative is to arrange for a later meeting or phone call.
  • Maintain a neat and clean vehicle, mechanically safe, in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Accurately record and report appropriate mileage for each and all designated routes.
  • Conform to Louisiana Law concerning the safety and welfare of assigned pupils.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of and conformity with state and local traffic laws and local governing motor vehicle operations.
  • Notify the Transportation Department immediately of all accidents or serious incidents. This also includes accidents or incidents in the driver's private personal vehicles.
  • All bus drivers must check their bus for students accidently left on board the bus at the conclusion of all routes.
  • Perform all other duties commensurate with the fulfillment of his/her responsibilities as a Bus Driver, as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation and the Superintendent of Lincoln Parish Schools.
