We are seeking a Controller to lead accounting and financial operations across manufacturing and commercial service business segments in a fully onsite, hands-on role. This position partners closely with production, service operations, purchasing, and leadership to oversee financial reporting, cost accounting, budgeting, and operational finance. The ideal candidate brings strong experience supporting both product-based and service-based revenue models, with a practical, detail-oriented approach to managing costs, improving processes, and supporting growth in a dynamic operating environment.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Oversee all core accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, fixed assets, job costing, and inventory.
  • Partner with leadership to provide financial modeling and analysis for growth initiatives, capital investments, and operational changes.
  • Deliver ongoing forecasts and variance analysis related to labor, materials, utilities, and operating expenses.
  • Manage financial reporting for both operating segments, including divisional profit and loss statements.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close activities, identifying inefficiencies and implementing process improvements.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including departmental and divisional planning.
  • Manage cash flow planning, working capital needs, payables cycles, and receivables collections.
  • Maintain and analyze standard costing, bills of materials, and cost-of-goods-sold calculations.
  • Monitor material consumption, labor productivity, and production waste to support efficiency improvements.
  • Implement systems and processes to improve costing accuracy, labor tracking, inventory management, and operational throughput.
  • Develop unit-cost metrics (e.g., cost per pound or per load) to support pricing decisions and margin analysis.
  • Analyze route-level profitability and delivery cost efficiency, where applicable.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Logistics, Sales, and Purchasing teams.
  • Maintain banking relationships, credit facilities, and related compliance obligations.
  • Coordinate tax filings, external audits, and required regulatory reporting.
  • Enhance internal controls across both operating segments.
  • Assess ERP effectiveness and lead system enhancements or upgrades as appropriate.
  • Track key cost drivers such as labor, chemicals, utilities (water, gas, electricity), and equipment depreciation.
  • Lead, train, and develop accounting staff through coaching, performance management, and mentorship.
  • Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • CPA or CMA designation is preferred.
  • Strong background in manufacturing or production accounting.
  • Understanding of service-oriented cost structures; experience in commercial services is a plus.
  • Strong expertise in cost accounting, operational finance, or multi-division financial management is a plus.
  • Proficiency with ERP and accounting systems and advanced Excel skills; SAP experience preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite full time.
  • Hands-on, detail-focused, and operationally oriented.
  • Effective communicator able to partner closely with production and service teams.
  • Analytical and process-driven, with a focus on improving efficiency and performance.
  • Adaptable, proactive, and comfortable operating in a dynamic, growing organization.
  • Experience overseeing accounting for both product-based and service-based organizations is a plus.
  • Background in a fast-paced, growth-oriented, privately held environment is preferred.
